KUCHING: Sarawak are buoyant on winning their first Super League match of the season on their own turf.

Seeking to maintain a winning momentum as they take on Melaka United in the Super League tonight at Stadium Negeri, Sarawak are looking to make it a hat-trick of wins going in fresh from a two-match winning streak against Penang last week and MISC-MIFA earlier this week.

Hence, the Crocs need to take advantage of earning full marks against weaker sides like Melaka United who are currently second last in the Super League table standings as well.

At the last Super League match played away at Batu Kawan Stadium last week, the Crocs did well with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Penang and they should also capitalise on the chances in front of an eager home crowd.

With the 6-3 win against MISC-MIFA on Tuesday (Feb 14), Sarawak should have newfound confidence against Melaka United, although Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Dato Posa Majais opined that the Crocs must not be over-confident.

In his opinion, Sarawak showed signs of complacency in the match against MISC-MIFA in the FA Cup where Sarawak conceded three goals in the second half but triumphed 6-3.

“I hope the team maintain their momentum against Melaka United tomorrow (tonight). We need to focus during the whole match,” he added.

Sarawak head coach David Usop commented that the team are in an optimistic mood to wrap up the visitors for three points tonight, in the belief that they have learnt from their lapse against MISC-MIFA.

“We hope the team will be extra motivated when playing in front of our own fans tomorrow (tonight).

“I am sure the team will do their best not to let the fans down too,” he said when speaking to reporters yesterday.

Sarawak so far have won once, drew once and lost twice in the Super League this season while winless Melaka United have played three matches drawing once and losing twice.
