KUCHING: Datuk Detta Samen, a special officer to Deputy Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri James Dawos Mamit is prepared to take up the challenge to contest in Puncak Borneo as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the coming 14th general election.
Detta, who is Mambong branch Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy chief has been entrusted by Dawos, who is Puncak Borneo MP, to meet the constituents and officiating at functions on the latter’s behalf in the constituency.
“What I am doing now is representing Dawos to meet the people and sometimes officiating at functions in the constituency (Puncak Borneo)..and I’m willing to take up the challenge as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate to contest in the constituency if the party (PBB) members consented to it and with the approval of BN top leaderships,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Speculation is rife that Dawos, the four-term incumbent will not be renominated to defend the seat, previously known as Mambong parliamentary seat due to health issues.
Meanwhile, DAP’s Sanjan Daik has shown keen interest to contest in the seat, having made regular walkabouts at Siburan and Tapah bazaars and plans to have it in Tarat, Beratok, Baki and Siniawan.
Willie Mongin from PKR is also said to be interested to contest in the seat, which has a predominantly Bidayuh voters.
