The unpatched pothole in front of Miri Welfare Office caused an uproar on social media.

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) believes an oversight has led to the wrong feedback on the completion of road-patching work in front of Miri Welfare Office to Talikhidmat and Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon.

Responding to Dr Ting’s recent posting in his Facebook account via a statement yesterday, MCC said the potholes in front of Miri Welfare Office were yet to be patched up, contrary to what Talikhidmat had told the council.

In his Facebook posting, Dr Ting decried that the potholes were not even covered.

The council was made to understand that the patch-up was completed on March 13 this year, after the matter was highlighted by Dr Ting on Dec 12 last year.

Saying that it had completed seven road patching works last year, MCC believed the misinformation could have occurred when the officer in charge of the projects erroneously included the patching-up in front of the Welfare Office as one of the completed projects.

“The council would like to express regret for the oversight made and any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

MCC clarified that a site inspection was carried out following the complaint by Dr Ting but the road was not under its jurisdiction as it was in the compound of the Welfare Office.

“The council actually intended to give clarification to YB Dr Ting Tiong Choon to this effect and refer this case to the agency concerned for their attention but unfortunately was overtaken by the oversight,” it said.
