KOTA KINABALU: A woman was killed after the Honda CRZ car she was driving rammed into a tree along Jalan Coastal, near Graceville, in Sembulan here yesterday morning.
Michelle Eliza Johnny, 26, succumbed to severe head and body injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (QEH I) around 4.30am.
City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the victim was heading to Tanjung Aru from the state capital when she lost control of the vehicle around 3.30am.
“The car skidded on the road and rammed into a tree by the roadside.
“The victim was pinned in the driver’s seat and the Fire and Rescue Services personnel took several minutes to free her.
“She was then taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors about an hour later,” he said yesterday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
