Woman killed, four injured in car mishap

PAPAR: A 67-year-old woman died after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident at Kilometre 17 of Jalan Kimanis-Keningau on Saturday.

Papar police chief DSP Nor Azizulkifli Mansor said the victim was among four passengers of a Perodua Kelisa car driven by a 35-year-old woman when the accident happened around 10.30 pm.

Reportedly, the driver had fallen asleep while driving and losing control of the car which swerved to the opposite lane before plunging into a drain.

There were also three children, aged two, four and nine, inside the car during the mishap and all of them sustained minor injuries.

The 67-year-old woman passenger suffered serious injuries to her head, right cheek and both legs and was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the driver suffered serious injuries to the head and right knee.

All of the passengers were sent to Papar hospital, except for the driver who was sent to Hospital Queen Elizabeth because of the serious injuries to her ribs.

“Police are calling on those who have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the district police station,” he said.
