MIRI: The Sarawak Bisaya Association of Miri (PBSM)  hopes that it would continue to receive support and cooperation from all members of the community to ensure that all programmes and activities planned for them would run smoothly.

According to Councillor Aries Leong, the members are the backbone of the association and thus, its success depends fully on their involvement and commitment.

“I hope all members can appreciate the efforts taken by the association to reach the level that it is at today, and this appreciation and support must be continuous,” he said at the PBSM biennial general meeting (BGM) at the meeting room of Wisma Melanau Miri recently, where he represented Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting to officiate at the opening ceremony.

Adding on, Leong said PBSM had conducted numerous activities including the Babulang Festival and was involved in organising the annual division-level Gawai Dayak celebration and the World Rainforest Music Festival – all listed under the state’s tourism calendar of events.

Earlier, Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis, who is also Sarawak Bisaya Association president, said among the agenda of the BGM was the discussion on activities for this year such as series of motivation talks, Babulang Festival 2017, Miri Division Gawai Dayak 2017 celebration, as well as a recent trip to Bintulu.

The BGM also elected Antonio as PBSM chairman for the 2017-2018 term, and Latip Sapong as vice-chairman. The respective secretary and assistant secretary are Henry Madai and George Gumbang, while the respective treasurer and assistant treasurer are Dionysius Richard Ellai and Dolly Juana Thaddeus Tumang.

Ordinary committee members are Alexander Alibar Injan, Mathew Madai, Adenan Munjong, Edwin Lamon and Lolita Jaime Nicholas.
