MIRI: The Mother and Child Health Clinic at Jalan Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai Jau here will be relocated to Jalan Merbau once  approval is received from their headquarters in Putrajaya.

Officer-in-charge of the clinic, Dr Noorul Amilin, said the relocation proposal had been submitted and they were now waiting for the green light to move.

“We do not know when we are moving because we are still waiting for the green light, but we will be relocated to the ground floor of a building next to the current Miri Polyclinic at Jalan Merbau,” she said yesterday.

She said the relocation was temporary and once the new polyclinic, now being built near Miri Hospital is ready, the Mother and Child Clinic would move there.

Dr Noorul was met during a visit to the facility by Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting yesterday.

According to Ting, among reasons for the proposed relocation of the clinic was that the current building was already old, and would be taken back by its owner.

“We came here before and had some facilities improved. But today, I noticed that they still need more air-conditioners. It can be very hot especially in the afternoon,” he said.

Ting also visited the treatment rooms, reception areas as well as the workplace for doctors and nurses and found the facilities in the areas all worn out.

Before the Mother and Child Clinic moved to the building at Jalan Temenggong Datuk Oyong Lawai Jau, it was part of the Miri Polyclinic at Jalan Merbau.

However, due to the growing number of patients, the facility has become crowded and unsuitable. Poor ventilation was also a problem and the matter was highlighted to the Ministry of Health.

A new polyclinic that will include a Mother and Child Clinic has been approved for construction next to Miri Hospital but it is not yet ready. The Mother and Child Clinic was therefore moved to its present location.
