University holds talk to engage students with industry players

KUALA LUMPUR: City University here recently held a talk on ‘Leadership in Practice: D.E.F.F.R.A.C’, a serial programme also known as Distinguished Speakers Series (DSS) to expose and engage students with experts and professionals in various industries.

The programme also prepares students with high leadership spirit and to be competitive, especially in their future career.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching was invited to deliver a speech at the university recently.When commenting on the programme later, Yap said it was a good programme, designed to expose and prepare students for their career.

“Students will be exposed to industrial experience by experts and professionals in various industries. Through this programme, they will know what the industry requirements are and they can prepare themselves for it,” she added.

Also, various experts and professionals such as pro chancellors of public universities, Australia High Commissioner to Malaysia, India High Commissioner to Malaysia, secretary general of World Youth Organisation International Acclaimed Indian Culture Dances, a professor of International Acclaimed Psychologist from Aberystwyth University (United Kingdom) have participated as speakers in the Distinguished Speakers Series.

Meanwhile vice-chancellor of City University Prof Dr Noridah Ibrahim said City University would invite more experts and professionals from various industries to share their experience and expertise in their field in the future.

Founded in 1984, City University, offers a wide range of higher education courses at various levels. They include Foundation Programme, Cambridge A-Levels, Diploma, Bachelor degree, Master degree (MBA and MA), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor in Business Administration (DBA).

“From our eight faculties at City University (Petaling Jaya campus), students can choose from more than 60 programmes at multi stages of the education field. They include Faculty of Engineering, Business, Education and Liberal Studies, Allied Health Science, Architecture and Built Environment, Information Technology, Hospitality and Tourism and Arts and Design,” said Noridah.

City University has three learning centres namely the Centre of Foundation Studies, Centre of Language and Centre of Graduate Studies.
