Improved situations seen at Tinjar, Telang Usan and Marudi

MIRI: The flood situation in Tinjar has improved significantly, with schools reopening and longhouses being safe again and taken out of the list of areas under close supervision for flooding.

The water levels at Long Bemang in Batang Baram, Tinjar and Teru regions in Telang Usan and Beluru District in Baram have receded.

The clinic and primary school at Long Bemang reopened yesterday – much to the relief of the 500 villagers there.

SK Long Bemang houses 103 pupils, as well as 24 teachers and school staff members.

The situations at Beluru and Marudi districts have also improved. It is believed that at the tail-end of the monsoon season had resulted in the second wave of flooding towards the end of last month.

The authorities, as at 5pm yesterday, decided to stop monitoring the water level at Nanga Ujau, Long Teru and Long Sepiling in Tinjar, Beluru District but would still keep an eye on Rumah Labang at Nanga Saridan in Tinjar and Rumah Gerang Dagom in Sungai Beluru, Tisam in Bakong.

Food packs had been sent to Rumah Budina and Rumah Frederick Belaja in Asaam Paya, Rumah Muna in Pengelayan, and Rumah Nanang in Sungai Tudan Ujong Daun in Marudi yesterday, as water level continued to drop.
