MIRI: A total of 31 Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) have been approved for Telang Usan constituency this year.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the projects mostly involved basic amenities such as village roads, women’s activity centres, multipurpose sports fields and halls, as well as drains.

He said since the state government launched the RTP initiative in 2015, various longhouses in Telang Usan constituency have received much-needed basic projects.

“Without this, it is hard and very difficult for rural areas to receive projects. For town constituencies, they have local or municipal councils and various government agencies to implement the projects, but for rural areas our hope is only RTP,” Dennis said when launching a newly-completed village road project under RTP 2016 at Long Watt, Sungai Apoh on Sunday.

Dennis explained that every state constituency under the Barisan Nasional (BN) has been allocated RM5 million for RTP annually.

“That is why for 2017, the project number is the most that is 31 in total, which means 31 longhouses throughout Telang Usan will get to enjoy the people-centric projects. I received tonnes of requests but could only approve some so I urge the people to be patient as I firmly believe under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari (Tun Openg) and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib (Tun Razak), Telang Usan’s requests for more people-projects will get serious attention if we continue to stay united and support Barisan Nasional,” he said.

Dennis added that he is currently inspecting all 31 RTP sites with Public Works Department (JKR) Miri staff until March 23 to ensure every sen allocated is spent to the fullest.

“I also would like to thank the JKR Miri divisional engineer for allowing his staff to go with me on this mission ahead of approval as I see this is the only way to ensure fast and effective implementation of RTP 2017 in Telang Usan,” he said.

He added the government is working to implement projects to improve the lives of the people including solar-hybrid projects for longhouses in Telang Usan.
