Enforcement team stumbles on illegal logging site at Tubau

KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in Tubau, Bintulu discovered 18 logs, 536 tree stumps and an excavator during a routine enforcement exercise at Sungai Rasan, Tubau recently.

The corporation in a statement yesterday said its enforcement team based at the One-Stop Compliance Centre (OSCC) detected suspicious activities at Sungai Rasan during the exercise.

“Subsequently, officers from SFC Bintulu Regional Office and OSCC Aloi were dispatched to the location on the same day to verify the legality of the activities. They discovered 18 logs, an excavator and 536 tree stumps. The logs measuring about 19 cubic metres in volume were of various timber species.

“The logs and the excavator were detained upon confirming that no licence had been issued to extract timber at the site,” according to the statement issued yesterday.

A report was lodged at Tubau Police Station and the case handed over to the relevant authority for further investigation and disposal.
