KIULU: Two opposition grassroots leaders ditched their parties to join United Pasok Momogum Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) in Kampung Tomis Baru here Saturday.

PKR Tomis Baru chief Donlis Kangiu and Star Tomis Baru Wanita head Mary Sapikit announced they were joining Barisan Nasional (BN) through Upko.

This marked another blow to the opposition here after the resignation of Star Togop Polling District Centre (PDM) chief Losuming Sambag, who also joined Upko recently.

Receiving the membership application forms from them was Upko acting president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau during the meet-the-people session at Kampung Tomis Baru multi-purpose hall.

Kangiu and Sapikit later told the crowd their decision was based on their own assessment of the current political scenario in Sabah.

They said they saw Upko leaders, particularly Tangau who is also the member of parliament for Tuaran, have been working hard and sincerely to bring development to the people all this while.
