Civil servant abusing drugs nabbed

LIMBANG: A government staff who had been abusing drugs for eight years was caught during on operation last Tuesday.

The suspect, 33, from Kota Samarahan was apprehended at 4.05pm by the Narcotics Crime Division of Limbang District Police.

District police chief, Superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said the suspect’s urine tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He said initial investigation showed that the suspect first abused drug in early 2009 when working with a marketing agency in Kuala Lumpur.

The suspect who was married allegedly spent RM40 on each tube of syabu. He has no criminal record and the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In another case, a divorced man, 39, from Kampung Meritam had to postpone his marriage proposal to his lover when both of them were arrested for hiding syabu in a house at Kampung Meritam on Wednesday.

Mohd Bukhori said in the 5.50pm operation, police detained the female suspect, 19, from Kampung Pahlawan on finding a plastic packet containing syabu hidden in a pink backpack placed near her.

“Her male accomplice tried to escape but was apprehended by the police conducting the operation in the house,” he said.

Police also found six transparent packets of syabu hidden in a sling bag used by the male suspect.

The couple’s urine tested negative for drugs.  Mohd Bukhori said the total amount of drugs confiscated from them was 24.26g valued at RM3,200.

The suspects were remanded for four days from yesterday to facilitate investigation under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
