Teacher among five caught abusing drugs

LAWAS: A teacher was among five persons caught for abusing and possessing drugs, during ‘Ops Tapis’ in Sundar on Tuesday night.

Lawas District police chief DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspect, 50, a primary school teacher here was caught at 11.20pm after he tested positive for amphetamine. Besides the teacher, a Bruneian man was also arrested at 11.30pm for hiding syabu at a house in Sundar.

“Police found in a cigarette packet, a crystal like substance believed to be syabu, weighing 0.07gram hidden in the clothing worn by the suspect. He also tested positive for amphetamine,” he said.

He added that three jobless men, aged 35, 32 and 30 from Kampung Luangan Kelilang, Kampung Meriting Sundar and Kampung Long Temarub Trusan were also detained during the same operation.

All three also tested positive for amphetamine. The cases are investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 12(2) of the same Act.
