KUCHING: Leo Clubs from 11 schools here gathered at Sumiran Eco Camp to participate in the Super Leo Camp 2.0 youth camp hosted by the Leo Club of Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No 1.

The three-day camp which started yesterday (March 24) and ends tomorrow is a fun-filled event for the 105 participating youths from CHMS No 1, SMK Green Road, SMK Sungai Tapang, SMK Kuching High, SMK Kuching Town, SMK Jalan Arang, SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, SMK St Teresa, SMK St Thomas, SMK Min Lit Batu Kawa and SMK Batu Lintang.

According to organising chairman and Leo Club of CHMS No 1 president Benjamin Sim, the idea to gather all Leo Club members together started three years ago.

The first edition was held in 2015 at the school.

“It started with one aim, which was to have a fun camp. As the years went by, we managed to improvise with essential elements of a Leo Club until we finally transformed it into a full-fledged youth camp today.

“Through this camp, we hope that Leo Club members will be able to truly understand the Leo spirit and not just serve without knowing what they are doing.

“We want them to have a sense of purpose and be able to lead younger members and hopefully contribute to the community,” said Sim when met at the opening ceremony at Sumiran Eco Camp yesterday.

Also present at the opening ceremony was CHMS No 1 principal Yap Chong Guan and District Governor Eve Wong.

“This event has shown an encouraging response from participants and I hope more will attend in the future. I hope all participants will learn something new from the camp, share and exchange ideas as well as make lots of new friends.

“This is a platform for youths to be more independent and learn to care for themselves and also others. It’s also a place where they can practice their leadership skills,” added Wong.

The various activities included in the three-day programme are the flying fox zip-lining event, jungle trekking, drama performances, a campfire and several other games.
