TAPAH: Local residents near the Tapah police headquarters were left reeling in shock over the alleged involvement of a fellow resident in the Daesh militant group.
A Bernama check revealed that although business went on as usual in the area, the residents were in disbelief upon hearing that the restaurant assistant had planned to launch an attack on the police headquarters.
A resident who wished to be identified only as Sulaiman said he only found out about the shocking news yesterday morning.
“Indeed, I was so shocked because all of a sudden, there is a plot to blow up the police headquarters.
“I think this shouldn’t be taken lightly as this can be real…if that was going to happen, the residents here will be in danger,” the man in his 50s told Bernama here yesterday.
He hoped the authorities would beef up security in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
Another resident, K. Kalidas, 52, feared the worst had the authorities not come up with swift action.
“I was scared upon reading the newspapers this morning…my shop is situated less than 100 metres from the police headquarters.
“Imagine if the police had not detained the restaurant assistant…anyone could have faced dire consequences,” said the trader of animal products.
Meanwhile, Perak CID chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee said no special measures were being carried out at all police stations as the force had beefed up security since an order was issued last year to fight against any threat, especially the Daesh group of militants.
It was reported Friday that nine men, including the restaurant assistant, were detained at several locations nationwide between March 15 and 21 over their alleged involvement in Daesh activities. — Bernama
