Power pump boat races ‘will set pulse racing in Sarawak Regatta’

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Power pump boat races could be a big drawcard as an event to be held at the annual Sarawak Regatta, said Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris yesterday,

Awla, who is also patron of Simunjan Power Pump Boat Club, claims the sport now has a huge following in the state and that it should be promoted at the annual. “Many youths are now interested in power pumpboat races and other water motorsport races. Pumpboat races will attract the interest of more youngsters to attend the Sarawak Regatta ,” he added.

Stating that the sport still lacks exposure, he also pointed out organisers in the power pump boat races ought to promote the safety features of the race in order to attract more enthusiasts. This was because power pump boat races are races that involves boats with very high-powered engines and safety is definitely a major concern. — by Matthew Umpang
