Workers hang a giant promotional banner on the upcoming Malaysia Open Badminton Championship on the wall of the Sarawak Plaza shopping complex along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman yesterday.

KUCHING: Members of the public are advised that ticket sales for the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open badminton championship will only be available at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya this Friday, March 31 (11am to 5pm) and not on March 29.

Those who have purchased their tickets earlier at authorised ticketing agents are also advised to redeem the actual tickets at the mentioned venue on the same day.

This was announced by Sarawak State Sports Council director Dr Ong Kong Swee in a press statement yesterday.

According to Ong, any inconvenience caused is much regretted but the delay in the delivery and sales of actual tickets was due to security features which had to be included in the printing process before being released to the public.

Ong said the response towards the event was overwhelming and ticket sales had been brisk with many fans from Japan, India, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei showing keen interest.

He also reminded the public to be wary of unscrupulous individuals selling counterfeit tickets and not to fall prey to ticket touts selling at exorbitant prices.

Meanwhile, limited tickets for the semi-finals and final rounds of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open are still available on sale on a  first-come-first-serve basis at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium.

Each buyer are only entitled to purchase two tickets.

Those who bought their tickets are required to bring along the original receipt and produce their identification cards in order to redeem the actual tickets.
