An online advertisement regarding the 400 vacancies for the posts of teachers in Sarawak cited by Snowdan, which is ambiguous.

KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Snowdan Lawan is seeking clarification from the government as to where the 400 religious teachers to be recruited by the Ministry of Education (MoE) will be posted in the state.

According to him, he has been informed by some graduates who have applied for the vacancies in the Ministry of Education (MoE) that the 400 vacancies were meant for religious teachers.

“It’s important for us to know if the 400 posts are meant for religious teachers. And we would also like to know to which schools and areas they are going to be posted in Sarawak, especially in rural areas,” Snowdan told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was also seeking clarification as to why MoE was not specific on the 400 vacancies.

“I received some information from graduate teachers wanting to apply for jobs as teachers under MoE. According to them, the online application form mentioned 400 vacancies but it didn’t say for which posts. So they contacted the State Education Department which duly clarified that the posts were meant only for religious teachers,” he said.

As a result of that, the applicants were disappointed, said the Balai Ringin assemblyman.

“So it’s a misleading information, because to the applicants it means an open post as a teacher. So it’s a frustration to them as well,” he reiterated.

When contacted, Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah clarified that the advertisement cited by Snowdan was not an original.

“The original advertisement or notice had clearly stated that the intake is for temporary (or interim) teachers and the year of intake is 2017.

“It also stated that it is an intake for teachers of Islamic Teaching and the duration is for three years. Some of the requirements stated is Bachelor Degree in related subject.

“Other details included Malaysian of good health, and of age not more than 30 years old on Jan 2017. The closing date is April 10 and the number of vacancies is 400. The advertisement even stated openly the salary,” said Fatimah.

She stressed that the advertisement which Snowdan had cited was not from the Public Service Department (JPN) which is responsible for all recruitment for the government.

“JPN did clearly state that the recruitment was for religious teachers. Whatever YB Snowdan saw was just cut and paste where the information was too brief. For the proper advertisement, go to JPN website,” said Fatimah.
