SIBU: The Lions Club of Sibu Central’s commendable effort to raise funds for a charity project to build water wells to help less fortunate Cambodians should be emulated by others.

Community leader Kapitan Connie Loh stressed that the effort would also greatly help to save the lives of less fortunate Cambodians who are in dire need to have access to clean, safe water for their daily consumption.

“It is very pitiful to see, especially the less fortunate little Cambodian children, who have to go through challenging situations in their everyday life as they do not have clean, safe water for consumption, particularly during drought season.

“Thus, what all the generous sponsors for the Cambodian Water Wells charity project have done shows that we are a caring society who are willing to help others, not only within Malaysia but even beyond (national) boundaries,” she said, when asked to comment on the Cambodian Water Wells charity project initiated by the Lions Club of Sibu Central under its president Andy Tie.

Loh said the clean, safe water from water wells will help to improve the health of the Cambodians and at the same time reduce the spread of disease.

“Thus, the Lions Club of Sibu Central has helped to make sure that these less fortunate little Cambodian children will stay healthy and ensure they have a better future.

“That is the beauty of the Lions Club of Sibu Central with their health services to improve the health of the community and their children’s services to help needy children, especially the poor the sick,” she added.

Loh said Lions Club  International is the largest and most active service organisation in the world with a total membership of more than 1.4milion.

“Lions all over the world provide a wide range of services to the needy, such as through environmental projects to

provide a better and cleaner Earth for us to stay in, health services to improve the health of the community as we believe everyone deserves good health, and children’s services to help the needy children, especially the poor the sick,” she added.

Meanwhile, Loh herself also donated towards the water well charity project during ‘Masquerade 2: The Fund Raising Party’ jointly organised by the Lions Club of Sibu Central and iFiT Gym in collaboration with Bachelor of Malaysia-The Pageant recently.
