MIRI: The Miri Marathon Association (MMA) is aiming higher for the second edition of Miri Marathon next year.

The inaugural event, which took place on March 19, attracted about 4,000 participants.

MMA advisor Datuk Lee Kim Shin has thrown a challenge to the association.

“For the second series of the similar event, I hope the event in particular the full marathon road race will able to get more participation from foreign countries,” he said during the Miri Marathon 2017 Appreciation Dinner at Imperial Palace Hotel on Saturday.

He advised the association to make earlier preparation for next year’s event particularly in the area of publicity.

Lee, who is also Assistant Minister of Tourism, added that more activities are needed to project Miri as a truly Resort City.

“Only through activities, it will create the foreigners an opportunity to experience and enjoy the different ethnic cultures as well as places of interests in the city,” he explained.

During the function, he presented a government grant under Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation worth RM10,000 to the MMA.

Also present were Piasau Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and Miri mayor Adam Yii.
