KUALA LUMPUR: The level of health among employees in the country is worrying as some of them have been suffering from various health problems, said Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib.

He said according to the statistics derived from the Health Screening Programme conducted by the Social Security Organisation (Socso), 70 per cent of its contributors who participated in the programme had been suffering from weight problem, diabetes (nine per cent), high blood pressure (27 per cent) and high cholesterol level (62 per cent).

“The statistics showed the lack of awareness among the employees, particularly the Socso contributors, on health. Such an awareness is very important to ensure that the workers remain healthy to (be able to) work and contribute to their organisations and families,” he said.

Ismail told this to reporters after attending the Socso Run and Ride programme and officiating the soft launch of the 2017 Labour Day here yesterday. — Bernama
