KUCHING: TM TEC Academy Sdn Bhd aims to expand its awareness programme on Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) to kindergartens and nurseries in Sarawak.

Its managing director Richard Song said it is vital that the staff of these premises comprising principals, supervisors and teachers know OSH to ensure the safety and health of the children under their care.

In view of this, the academy will submit a proposal on the matter to the Ministry of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing in a month’s time, Song added.

“We feel that there is an urgent need for our kindergartens and nurseries to be aware of health and safety apart from the legal aspects that are to be adhered to upon registration, assuring the safety of the management as well as the stakeholders,” he said when paying a courtesy call on the Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah at her office yesterday.

He added that the proposed paperwork would include the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) 1994, OSH management system, types of hazards and its identification, common hazards in kindergarten and nurseries settings, hazards, risks and control measures and emergency response plan.

“We want to share the experience and success we had in Sabah to Sarawak whereby safety can be in any aspect, be it sexual safety, health safety, hazard safety. All those safety aspects must be practised and TM TEC would like to share the experience through our experts and other trainers who will come in to Sarawak to make it a success,” he said.
