Man pleads not guilty to possessing fake bank notes

KUCHING: A man from China charged with possessing forged RM1,000 bank notes pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here yesterday.

The 49-year-old accused Xu Wen Song from Fujian appeared before Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng who set May 15 for further mention and hearing on June 20.

He was alleged to have possessed 10 pieces of the fake currency at the regional office of Bank Negara here when detained at about 12.30pm on April 12 this year.

He was charged under Section 489c of the Penal Code which provides for a jail sentence up to 10 years upon conviction.  The Court had ordered him to be further remanded in prison, pending disposal of the case.

Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted while lawyer Gabriel Foo represented the accused.

In another court, an unemployed man charged with possessing 29.10g and 0.78g of Methamphetamine claimed trial.  The accused Hew Yu Kong appeared before Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman who released him on RM3,000 bail in one surety and set May 20 and 30 for the trial.

Hew allegedly possessed the drugs at two separate spots in a house at Jalan Sultan Tengah here. The offences were allegedly committed at about 1.45pm on Feb 8.  He was represented by lawyers
