31-year-old rape suspect remanded for seven days

SIBU: A 31-year-old man suspected of raping an 11-year-old girl was ordered by a magistrate’s court here yesterday to be remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigation.

He was arrested about 3pm Wednesday by a police team led by Inspector Hairul Hussin at a longhouse in Rantau Lelangan, Meluan, Julau.  The police took two days to trace his whereabouts following a report received that he had sex with an underage girl. The girl is said to have revealed on Sunday that she had been forced to have sex with the suspect at a brick factory.

Her mother is said to have forced her to reveal the truth after noticing a red mark on her neck. The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
