Igan bridge will spur devt in Matu — CM

MUKAH: The construction of the 1.8 kilometre Igan bridge linking Matu  to the road leading to Mukah will spur rapid development in the town and its surrounding area.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg yesterday announced that the RM305 million project is in the tender process and construction is expected to begin this year.

“The project will take 42 months to complete which is on December 2020,” he said  at the earth breaking for the construction  of Matu District Mosque and the unveiling of the Pelita Commercial Development and People’s Housing Project plans at the Matu Civic Centre yesterday.

Abang Johari said the bridge will create business opportunities for the people in Matu, Daro and Semop.

At the same event, Abang Johari also announced an additional RM5 million allocation for the construction of Matu District Mosque.

In 2016, the state government had already allocated RM5 million for the construction of the mosque.

“We want the construction of the mosque to be a symbol of the strong and integrity of Muslim community in Matu and the surrounding areas,” he said.

Abang Johari who is also Minister of Housing and Urbanisation also announced that the state government will fund the construction of ‘Rumah Spektra Permata’.

“We will build 20 houses in Matu and 20 in Igan and name it ‘Spektra Permata’,” he said.

Also at the event were assistant minister of Urbanisation Datuk Talib Zulpilip, assistant minister for Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Jemoreng assemblyman Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, and Semop assemblyman Abdullah Saidol.
