New SOP to address pothole woes — Fadillah

THE Works Ministry will introduce new standard operating procedures (SOP) for repairs works on damaged road pavements, said its minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said the ministry, through the Public Works Department (PWD) and registered contractors, would cooperate to study new SOPs so that every work is done by the same method.

“The problem that often occurs is due to a ‘third party’, meaning that that party dug up the pothole to replace water pipes, change electric cables, telephone cables and so forth.

“They (third party) often cause problems when the pavements are not aligned back.

“As such all such works must be done by those with skills such as PWD, registered contractors, who have undergone the process and understand how to patch up the potholes,” he told the Dewan Negara sitting yesterday.

He was replying to a supplementary question from Senator Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail who wanted to know the procedure to carry out road paving work for badly damaged roads to be tarred completely.

Fadillah said such works were mostly done by those who did not go through the proper paving process and repair works that did not met the standands set. — Bernama
