MIRI: Sixty oil and gas professionals, skilled and semi-skilled workers claimed their employers had not paid their salaries for the past two months and they want the state government to intervene.
The group of workers had lodged a police report at Miri Central Police Station yesterday to investigate the issue.
Their spokesman Dennis Enyang who is an engineer in the company said apart from the two months salaries, payment of EPF, Income Tax and Socso for the month of March were not deducted as discovered at three services counters.
“We want the employer to pay our outstanding monthly salaries including claims and overtime as we need to pay our housing, car loans and other bills,” Dennis said during a press conference in Piasau yesterday.
According to Dennis, the employees had sent letters of appeal to the Chief Minister, Labour Department, SUPP Piasau to help resolve their predicament with the company.
“We hope the state government can help us solve the outstanding issue with the company as the monthly salaries are much needed by all affected employees,” he disclosed.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said when contacted yesterday: “I was informed by a friend of the issue yesterday and would like to meet the employees to find out ways to solve the issue as the workers need their salaries to feed their families.”
