KUCHING: The Malaysian wushu contingent, represented by the Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak (NWFS), has set a target of 15 gold medals in the 2nd Taiwan World Cup International Wushu Championship.

According to NWFS chairman Professor Dr Song Swee Hee, the federation is the sole organisation to represent the nation in the championship, which will be held from April 27 to May 2.

“We are aiming to win at least 15 gold medals and improve our performance from previous outings,” said Song at the presentation of flag by NWFS patron Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, here yesterday.

The exponents will compete in over 20 events at the tournament which will be held at the New Taipei City Gymnasium.

“We have been preparing for six months and we are confident that we will be able to repeat our last year’s performance,” he said.

He added that the event was originally scheduled for July but was brought forward to this month.

“We are lucky that we had planned and trained our exponents early for this event,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fadillah when met by The Borneo Post at the event said last year’s outing was a success and hoped that the contingent would return with better results this year.

The contingent consists of eight exponents, all are Sarawakians, and three officials.
