MIRI: The state government is expected to announce some good news on pemakai menoa and pulau galau soon.
This follows the announcement by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas that the state government is doing its best to solve issues related to NCR land.
“The state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has decided to give a protocol solution to address the NCR land issues faced by the people.
“On this concern, a committee, Pemakai Menoa and Pulau Galau (PMPG) Committee, has been formed to find ways to resolve the controversial issue concerning these two land categories,” he stated when officiating at the Pre-Launch Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2017 dinner at Meritz Hotel here on Saturday.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy, is the chairman of the PMPG committee.
He said the committee had a dialogue with a group of legal practitioners in Bintulu last week.
“Such dialogue was part of the efforts to give the people an opportunity to express their views.
“We are very open and listen to every constructive opinion to solve the problem on NCR land. It is hoped that we can get some positive outcomes followed by an announcement on this matter soon.”
At the same time, he called on the people to continue to give their fullest support to the chief minister, saying the chief minister is very serious in pushing Sarawak into the digital economy which will link the state with the world via e-commerce.
Towards this aspiration, he said the state government has taken various efforts to increase the Internet speed in the state via the construction of a high speed fibre optic network connecting Sarawak, Indonesia and Brunei.
In addition, the chief minister also paid attention to rural transformation to uplift the living standard of the people in rural areas, he pointed out.
In views of that, he called on Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) to take up the challenge to explore the opportunities provided by the government.
“In line with your tonight’s theme of ‘Be Daring To Make Difference’, I hope that the difference that you want to create is on the right way. Here, you can play your role to explore the IT industry created through the digital economy.”
While exploring development opportunities, he reminded the Iban community to stay united.
Among those attending the event were Uggah’s wife Datin Amar Doreen Lee, Assistant Minister of Solidarity Rosey Yunus, Member of Parliament for Sibuti Ahmad Lai Bujang, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, political secretary to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie, Miri Resident Sherrina Hussaini, Miri mayor Adam Yii, GADS president Vicky Gulin, GADS legal advisor Robert Pasang Alam and organising chairwoman Dena Garus.
Later, Uggah announced a government grant of RM30,000 for GADS’s Gawai bazaar.
Ting contributed RM10,000 for the bazaar while Gerawat, Rosey, Dennis and Ripin gave RM5,000 each.
