SIBU: The police are looking for another 11 persons to help in the investigation of the murder of businessman Clement Tan Teck Howe, who was killed in a mob attack at Wong King Huo Road at 1am last Thursday.

They have already arrested 12 persons to help in the murder probe shortly after Tan’s death.

Two of them were remanded for five days on Saturday while the rest released.

The 11 now sought by the police are Anthony Ling Yew Fung, aged 22, Melvin @ Chen Zen, 20, Kevin Chung Bing Lung, 23, Gary Tang Kiet Lee, 22, William Lee Kee Fook, 25, Peter Ling Deng Sing, 29, Sylvester Kong Sien Yong, 23, Kong Chin Lung, 21, Aleyxon Ling Poh Huat, 26, Dylan Wong Kuok Kwong, 24, and Julians Ling Yew Fung, 26.

The police have classified the murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code that carries the mandatory death sentence on conviction.

The murder is said to have occurred at 1am when Tan was drinking with his friends in a coffee shop when two men approached him.

An argument between him and one other man ensued.

The suspects allegedly called in a group of men armed with wooden and metal objects to attack Tan and his friends.

It is said Tan and his friends ran until they were swarmed in by another more than 10 attackers about 200 metres from the coffee shop.

The group rained blows on them in the mob attack.

Tan fainted while his friends suffered injuries. He was sent to a private clinic before being sent to Sibu Hospital where he died.

In a press conference on Saturday evening, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor denied the case had something to do with gangsterism. He said the murder was sparked by a misunderstanding arising from a social media exchange in WeChat.

Mazlan has warned the suspects on the run saying, “No point going into hiding. Even if you fly to China, the police will go there to bring you back.”
