SMK Muara Tuang’s day at Song Kheng Hai

Victorious SMK Muara Tuang players lift the Don Drury Memorial Cup with Sue and Bentham at the Song Kheng Hai ground yesterday.

KUCHING: SMK Muara Tuang emerged champions for the fifth edition of the Don Drury Memorial rugby tournament yesterday.

It was a one-sided final after they overcame MRSM 25-5 at the Song Kheng Hai Ground.

According to Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC) treasurer Dick Bentham, the Under-16 competition has a clear objective.

“We have always been committed in grooming the youngsters which was why we decided to start organising this tournament five years ago. With this tournament we are also looking to unearth talented youngsters who are good in rugby,” he said.

The Don Drury Memorial Trophy is organised specifically for novice school teams and teams located in the rural areas in the state.

Tournament sponsor Sue Drury, wife of the late Don Drury, gave away the prizes.

10 teams competed in this year’s tournament including SMK Wira Penrissen A, SMK Asajaya A, SMK St Joseph, SMK Sungai Maong, SMK Muara Tuang B, MRSM B, SMK Asajaya B and SMK Wira Penrissen B.
