Chief Minister arrives in Kapit for two-day official visit

KAPIT: Hundreds of people turned up at Sri Baleh VIP Guesthouse yesterday afternoon to welcome Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Amar Datuk Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, who arrived here for a two-day official visit.

On hand to receive the chief minister and his entourage when they touched down at Sri Baleh helipad around 3pm were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, Minister of Public Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi, Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Assistant Minister for River Transportation and Safety Liwan Lagang, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Ngemah assemblyman Alexander Vincent, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau, political secretaries to chief minister Tapah Ata, Nicholas Kudi Jantai, Edwin Banta and Maurice Giri, First Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Deputy Resident Galong Luang, district officers, heads of government departments and local community leaders.

Abang Johari and his entourage were welcomed by a lion dance, ‘ngajat’ and other traditional dance performances.

In the afternoon, they attended a briefing on development in Kapit at the conference room of Kapit Civic Centre.

Later in the evening, they attended the ‘Kapit Division-Meet The Leaders’ gathering at the civic centre, which was attended by some 1,000 people.

At 8am today, Abang Johari will perform an earth-breaking ceremony for SK Sungai at KM3, Jalan Bukit Goram here.

He and his wife will visit Fort Sylvia (now known as Tun Jugah Foundation) along Jalan Kubu Lama at 9.25am before returning to Kuching.

Meanwhile, Juma’ani will officiate at the presentation of school aid to poor students at SK Kampung Baru at 8am.
