Ex-con, alien caught after crashing stolen vehicle

TAWAU: Police here arrested two men on suspicion of having stolen an Isuzu pick-up truck at Jalan Megah Jaya here, yesterday.

District police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said the incident occurred at about 7.20am when pick-up truck driver, aged 30, had left the engine running while he went to buy food at a food stall.

The police were informed that the stolen vehicle was spotted at Batu 5,  Jalan Apas at about 8 am.

Fadil said the suspects sped towards Kg Hidayat once they realised the  presence of the police. They were later caught by the police when the vehicle plunged into a hole near the Viramek old factory at Batu 4, Tawau.

Both  suspects were found with head injuries after being pelted with stones from above by the public, as the suspects had acted aggressively and tried to run away.

Fadil said the suspects, together with the vehicle were brought back to the Tawau police station for investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

The suspects, aged 27, a local, and 48, a foreigner, would be remanded on April 27, and urine tests would also be carried out.

It was learnt that the 27-year-old suspect was an ex-convict who stole a vehicle in 2010 and also had a car breaking case in 2012.
