Donnie Yen to visit Kuching, meet fans during AIFFA 2017

KUCHING: Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen will be making his debut appearance in Kuching for the Asean International Film Festival and Award (AIFFA), held from May 5 to 6.

The star of the blockbuster ‘Ip Man’ movie series and ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is scheduled to meet his fans at the Old Courthouse here on May 6 from 2pm onwards.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin made the announcement at a press conference here yesterday, adding that the actor would also celebrate his 35 year anniversary of his career with his fans here.

“The state government and AIFFA are ready to roll out AIFFA 2017 next week.

“There will be plenty of attractive events and activities for Kuching folks and the Asean community such as free concert and movie screenings, educational film talks and creative sharing sessions,” he said.

AIFFA’s Facebook page also made the announcement last night, surprising local fans.

Lee said that the event had generated great international interest and received many request for invitations from Japan, China, Australia, Europe and Hollywood.

‘Even Donnie Yen, one of the world’s biggest film stars will celebrate the anniversary of his movie career in Kuching.”

Meanwhile, festival director Livan Tajang said the event promises a star studded ensemble from around the world.

“From May 4, international, Asean and Malaysian delegates and film enthusiasts as well as members of the public will enjoy the educational Cafe Crawl, three-day film screening at selected cinemas and the opening night at the Kuching Amphitheatre that will see Phua Chu Kang, Upin & Ipin, Dayang Nurfaizah and Datuk David Arumugam of Alleycats as the highlights of the night,” he said.
