SFC team seizes 54 illegally felled logs

KUCHING: Two logs from the protected Tapang species were among 52 others seized by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) during an enforcement operation conducted at Sg Mekapan, Jelalong, Rasan near Bintulu recently.

SFC in a statement yesterday said its enforcement team comprising officers from its One-Stop Compliance Centre (OSCC) in Tubau and Bintulu Regional Office were on patrol when they came upon the two logs.

“The logs were subsequently identified to be of the Tapang species which is protected under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance, 1998. Further investigation of the area yielded an additional 52 logs believed to have been felled illegally,” said an SFC spokesperson.

A police report on the case had been made and the consficated logs have been handed over to the relevant authority for further investigation and disposal.
