Police perform an inspection at Kampung Betik to nab illegal immigrants.
LAHAD DATU: A total of 38 illegal immigrants were arrested in an integrated operation coordinated by the district Police at Kampung Jawa and Kampung Betik earlier today.
District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said that the individuals comprised of 11 men, 11 women and 16 children were detained for not having any valid identification documents.
“During the operation, 57 individuals were inspected and 38 of them aged between one and 60 were nabbed for not having any valid documents.
“Those individuals were taken to the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre for investigation and deportation by the Immigration Department,” said Hamzah.
He added the case would be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002), Immigration Rules 1963 and Passport Act 1966.
