KOTA SAMARAHAN: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg is mulling over the idea of introducing electric buses for use in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian.

He said the three divisions had a combined population of about one million – a number which would require public transport that opted for advanced technology so as to reduce smoke emissions.

According to him, some bus companies may not be in favour of this idea, to which he asserted no individual could avoid advanced technology.

Together with Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing, who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, they would look into a feasible implementation plan in the next 10 years.

Abang Johari said his administration was also looking at the use of electric cars in Kuching to turn the capital city of Sarawak into a green city for its counterparts across the world to emulate.

“I’m not a dreamer, but I dream with facts. We have to go for advanced technology and if we don’t change, we cannot blame others but have ourselves to blame because we are too slow to change,” he said when launching MD Worlds Sdn Bhd’s new Perodua showroom at the Campus Hub here today.
