Gold rush for Sarawak on final day of interstate bowling

KUCHING: Sarawak ended their campaign in the 30th National Interstate Bowling Championship at Sunway Megalanes, Sunway Pyramid, Selangor on a flourish by bagging four more gold, one silver and four bronze medals on Wednesday.

This brings their total medal tally to five gold, four silver and eight bronze medals to finish behind the overall champions Selangor (7-8-3) and ahead of Johor (2-1-1). Sarawak were Girls overall champions, second in Boys overall and third in men’s overall and women’s overall.

The state bowlers went on a golden rush on the final day of competition with the quartet of Ervin Lim Wai Mun, Chong Jun Foo, Daniel Tan Yan Han and Bong Kihow amassing 5,070 pinfalls to top the men’s team event.

Sarawak also won the gold medals in the boys team through Abg Afiq Yazid Abg Azman, Christopher Tiong Lee Siong, Musayyar Khalid and Abner Loo) and girls team through Nerosha Keligit Thiagarajan, Nur Aina Kamalia Abdul Ayub and Gillian Lim Siew Geok.

Nur Aina picked up her second individual gold in the tournament when she won in the girls all-events.

The men’s all events saw Jun Foo finishing third with 3,833 pinfalls, teammates Kihow was fourth with 3,873 pinfalls while Wai Mun and Yah Han were ninth and tenth respectively.

Meanwhile, Dayang Yumi Azreen, Nurafidza Mohd Amran, Dayang Aida Natasha Jamaliddon and her sister Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana took the bronze in the women’s team event after registering a total score of 4,377 pinfalls.
