Taib: Leaders must understand people’s need, aspiration

MUKAH: Leaders need to understand the needs and aspirations of the people, especially the younger generation.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said this was due to the fact that people nowadays have more complex desires compared to that in the past.

“Communities are now more complex and so is the needs and desires of the young generation, which need to be understood by the leaders,” he said when officiating at ‘Pesta Kaul’ 2017 in Kala Dana Beach here yesterday.

According to him, good relationship between leaders and people have to be sustained, which has since long existed.

Taib cited an example of informal meeting at festivals such as ‘Pesta Kaul’ for leaders and people to mingle.

According to him, it was not confined to meetings and official events for discussion to take place.

Good relationship between leaders and people also ensures peace and harmony of all communities.

After officiating at the event, Taib visited stalls set up at the site.

His wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Minister of Welfare, Woman and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Assistant Minister for Environment Len Talif Salleh and Mukah MP Datuk Seri Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah were among those present.
