SIBU: Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh says he has tar-sealed roads in his constituency as promised during the last state election.

Wong promised the residents to upgrade and tar-seal the main road as well as feeder roads leading to their residential areas in the town’s west bank.

“After the election, we are now returning to fulfil the promises to upgrade and tar-seal the roads for the convenience of the people,” he said when monitoring works on road upgrading at the west bank yesterday.

With him was a technician of Public Works Department here, Yong Sin Ho.

Touching on Sungai Maaw Road, Wong said JKR had upgraded and tar-sealed part of the road.

The upgrading works, which has just been completed, involved 3km, which is part of the 10-km Sg Maaw road costing millions of ringgit.

“This 3-km stretch was normally submerged by water wherever it rained heavily and during king tide,” he said.

On the Sg Sadit road, Wong said RM1.2 million had been allocated to upgrade and tar-seal the 6-km road.

“We have completed about 50 per cent of the works,” he said.

Wong, who is also second finance minister, said after the completion of the road upgrading, similar works would be extended to other areas like Sungai Empawah, Tanjung Kunyit, Peradom, Engkilo and Sungai Bidut.

It is understood that about RM6 million to RM7 million is needed to upgrade all roads in the area.
