PUTRAJAYA: DAP Adviser Lim Kit Siang yesterday gave his statement to the Special Task Force (STF) probing into the losses suffered by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) due to foreign exchange (forex) trading in the 1990s.

Kit Siang, who is also Gelang Patah MP, completed his statement in about 40 minutes in the hearing held at the Finance Ministry here.

Speaking to reporters at the ministry’s lobby, Kit Siang said he came at the invitation of the STF as they wanted to “interview those involved or have information on the forex trading activities undertaken by BNM in the 1990s”.

He said the STF only asked him about the statements he made at the Dewan Rakyat sittings in 1993 and 1994 relating to the losses suffered by BNM due to the forex trading scandal.

“They didn’t ask about anything else.

“They only asked questions related to my speech and the motion I tabled in Parliament. That’s all,” he said.

At the Dewan Rakyat sittings in 1993 and 1994, Kit Siang, among others, called for a royal commission of inquiry to be set up to probe into the losses suffered by BNM.

The STF chaired by former Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan is responsible of conducting the preliminary investigation into the AS$10 billion (RM44 billion) losses suffered by the BNM due to its forex trading activities between 1991 and 1993. — Bernama
