All armed forces should pledge utmost loyalty to defend nation’s sovereignty – Agong

KUALA LUMPUR: Every level of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) should continue to give their highest loyalty so that the sovereignty of the country is not threatened, says the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V today.

He said the loyalty and excellence of ATM is a legacy inherited by the past warriors who had sacrificed for the race and nation.

“I am urging ATM personnel to push the armed forces to  a higher level of excellence.

“ATM should continue to make all efforts to empower its preparedness and skills so that it continues to be respected,” he said at a parade to honour the installation of the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the Supreme Commander  of the Malaysian Armed Forces here.

The King expressed his satisfaction with the achievements of ATM which has successfully played its roles as the pillar of defence and the country’s sovereignty besides describing the ATM as a versatile force.

 

The arrival of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Army Chief Square was greeted with the national anthem and a 21-gun salute.

His Majesty accompanied by Armed Forces chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, later inspected a guard of honour comprising 26 officers and 588 personnel of various ranks from the three branches of ATM.

The parade, headed by Lt Colonel Johan Effendi Mohd Salleh comprised five main contingents namely the Royal Malay Regiment , Royal Ranger Regiment and Royal Armoured Corps from the Army, the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM).

As soon as the inspection of the ATM parade was completed, nine helicopters comprising three Agusta, one Super Lynx, one Nuri and two EC725  as well as two Fennec carried out a fly-past.

 

The helicopters also carried the national flag and the flags of the ATM branches while members of parade cried ‘Daulat Tuanku‘ three times in honour of the Yang di-Pertuan  Agong , followed a prayer.

Sultan Muhammad V was later given a march past by the guards of honour at the end of the ceremony.
