SHAH ALAM: Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin visited the Nestle Shah Alam Factory Complex on Thursday.

He toured the factory’s training centre and production line, and also spoke to long-serving employees.

Hamzah said the government strived to transform Malaysia into a high-income nation and investments from companies such as Nestle into building up manufacturing capability and human capital development reflected the global market’s confidence in Malaysia’s capabilities and prospects.

“Nestle’s commitment towards local human capital development through the years is truly laudable. It is imperative to generate a skilled Malaysian talent pool to drive the country forward and spur economic growth as we embark on the final stretch towards realising Vision 2020,” he said.

Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad CEO Alois Hofbauer said the company has always put Malaysians first in its hiring process.

“We take the strongest Malaysian potential and develop them into a powerful workforce that is engaged, empowered and exceptionally productive. That is what gives us a competitive edge,” said Hofbauer.

“We believe in investing into building our Malaysian talent to drive growth for our company. In 2016 alone, we have invested over RM11 million on training and development programmes for all our employees and have committed over 60,000 hours towards training our world-class factory workforce.”

He said the Nestle Continuous Excellence (NCE) platform drives a culture of continuous productivity among the trained local workforce.

To date, the NCE platform has doubled productivity and delivered year-on-year reductions in manufacturing costs.

“Nestle’s high productivity and efficiency has also enabled its high quality products to stay affordable for all Malaysians, which makes it highly competitive. Productivity savings are also reinvested back into building its brands to ensure long-term growth for the business,” he said.

“We believe in the power of our local talent and are committed to continue recruiting the best Malaysian talent, and to train and develop them. Through this commitment, we will deliver on Nestle’s purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future for all Malaysians.”
