SARATOK: The body of the passenger, who was reported missing after the boat that he was boarding capsized in Sungai Paloh last Saturday, has been found.

According to Saratok Fire and Rescue Department senior officer I, Kho Boo Jang, the residents of Kampung Paloh spotted the body around 8.30am yesterday about one kilometre from where the boat had sunk.

Abang Madehan Abang Awi was among 11 people travelling by boat, which was also carrying cartons of mineral water, along Sungai Paloh on Saturday when big waves struck the vessel, causing it to capsize.

All those on board, except Abang Madehan, managed to swim to safety.

It is said that the group was from Kabong and they were on their way to deliver mineral water – supplied by the state Welfare Department – to the draught-stricken Kampung Paloh.

Kho, who headed the the search and recovery (SAR) team, said the body had been sent by police to Saratok Hospital for postmortem.
