SIBU: The University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) is a dream comes true for the people here, says KTS Group managing director Dato Henry Lau yesterday.

“For many years, we’ve tried to have a university here. I was involved and I know how difficult it was, and because of the commitment of Dato Sri (Wong Soon Koh) and his team and blessing from Tun Pehin Sri (Abdul Taib Mahmud), now the university has become a reality,” he said.

He was speaking when leading a KTS delegation to visit the university campus here yesterday.

Lau hoped there would be more collaboration and cooperation between KTS and UCTS in the future.

KTS is one of the companies participating in the UCTS Corporate Talent Development (CTD) Scheme.

Meanwhile, vice chancellor of UCTS Professor Dato Dr Abdul Hakim Juri also expressed hope of seeing more collaboration with KTS Group of Companies in the future for the benefit of the students.

He said it was quite difficult to get people from other cities such as Kuching to study in Sibu.

“That required us to work hard on this,” he said.

According to him, the university has about 1,700 students and there are various scholarships available.

Earlier, Dr Abdul Hakim and staff of UCTS welcomed the visitors, and led  them in a tour of the campus.

Among those in the delegation were KTS general manager (special project) Dr Ling Choon Yang, manager (project) Kelvin Ting, manager (KTS Resources – Project) Wong Lay Nam, KTS Trading Sdn Bhd senior executive Kevin Lau, KTS Forests Management Sdn Bhd senior manager Diana Lau, and KTS Trading Sdn Bhd general manager for finance and accounts Peter Lau.
