Eleven teams comprising 95 archers took part in the competition at Kidurong Club Bintulu from May 5 to 8.

Also present was Bintulu Division Archery Association president Datuk Pui Kian Onn who is the chairman of the organising committee.

“I can see a lot of new faces, young men, young ladies, small boys and girls.

“This is a good sign for the sport of archery, this shows the archery is growing strong in Sarawak as we have new blood to replace the old and weak ones,” said Pui.

He was confident that Bintulu Division Archery Association would be able to produce young archers to represent Sarawak for the coming Sukma 2018 which will be held in Perak next year.

“We have produced one Compound gold medalist Kho Yee Ting in the last Sukma in Kuching. He helped Sarawak to bag two gold medals out of three gold medals for archery,” Pui said.

Meanwhile Sarawak Archery Association secretary general Chong Yap Jin when met said six categories were contested in the 18th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championship.

“Two of the archers were Singaporeans while six from Melaka and the rest  Sarawakians,” he said.

According to him this competition is a platform for them to select 10 best archers to represent Sarawak for Sukma.

He added overall the archers from the Northern region have shown the potential to excel in the sport.
