DUN sitting begins amidst rainy weather

KUCHING: The official opening of the eight-day State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today went on unhampered, though there was an undesired downpour.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib arrived at the Parade Square, DUN Complex shortly after 10am, followed by the playing of the national anthem.

Their arrival, which was scheduled for 9.30am, was delayed due to the downpour.

Taib then inspected the Guard of Honour comprising 105 officers from the 11th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) at the ceremony.

The sitting from today until May 22 will be attended by members of the august House from across the state.

It will include the tabling of the Supplementary Supply (2016) Bill 2017 by Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Eight motions have been filed by six elected representatives and are expected be tabled, along with a total of 411 questions seeking 336 oral replies and 70 written replies which will be presented during the sitting.

Heavy rain falls as the opening ceremony gets underway.
