KUCHING: Around 40 members of the Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) group assembled at the Kuching Waterfront here this morning to express their support for Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How’s Citizens Initiated Referendum (CIR) proposal to be moved in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

At the same time, members of the august House assembled at the DUN premises for the opening ceremony of the current sitting, just across the river where the assembly was held.

According to S4S leader Peter John Jaban, S4S members had started the gathering early but had to cut it short and dispersed immediately when it began to rain.

“To be exact, it was not a protest but a gathering to show support for YB Chee How in tabling the Sarawak citizens initiated referendum (CIR),” he explained.

The DUN sitting began today with an opening ceremony that included the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s opening address.

Sarawak currently has 82 lawmakers.
