State fighters finish second in muaythai championship

KUCHING: Sarawak captured four gold, five silver and three bronze medals to finish second overall in the Borneo Cup Muaythai Championship in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently.

The overall champions were Sabah A who won eight gold, four silver and one bronze medals while Sabah B came in third with one gold, four silver and one bronze.

Sarawak’s gold medals were delivered by Pratasarthee in the 48-51kg category, Elias Ghazali (51-54kg), Kabilan Jelevan (54-5 kg) and Heendrew Lois (60-63.5kg).

The silver medals came from Abdul Hadi in the 45-48kg category, Lu Yi Ran (63-67kg), Ranti Niza (45-48kg), Shima Budit (54-57kg) and Elia Zonia (57-60kg).

Meanwhile, the bronze medals were contributed by Norashikin in the 48-51kg, Aurora Xing (51-54kg) and Muhammad Eswandy in the 67-71kg category.

Accompanying the state team was Sarawak Muaythai Association president Jumaat Ibrahim.

“I am very happy with the fighters’ performance and hope they will keep up their commitment for success of muaythai in Sarawak.

“This is part of the association’s programme to expose the muaythai fighters for Sukan Sarawak (Suksa) and Sukan Malaysia (Sukma),” said Jumaat.

With this achievement, Jumaat strongly believes that the state muaythai fighters will perform better in the future as there are many tournaments waiting for them.

“I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Sarawak State Sports Council for their undivided support to us all this while,” he added.
